Your Task: Follow along with Ms.P to learn the following Photoshop tools.

15. Drag and drop images into other photographs

Your Assignment: Using the photos from the SShare folder do the following to the elephant image:
1. Open the image of the elephant
2. Crop the photo to a square.
3. Make two elephants and flip one elephant to face the opposite direction.
4. Select the flower from the flower photo and add it to one of the elephants heads.
5. Make the flower blue.
6. Make one elephant lighter in shade.
7. Make that same elephant purple.
8. Make the ocean black and white.
9. Make the trees in the background alternate light and dark by using the dodge and burn tools.
10. Select the sky and use a really obvious filter on it - you may need to adjust the settings.
11. Have the dinosaur swimming in the ocean - show only the top of its head, upper claws and tail.
12. Use the text tool and put your name in the bottom right hand corner of the image in white writing.
13. Save your new file as a .jpeg
14. Post your completed image to your blog and email me the link for grading.

Pinhole Photography Assignment

Your task: Organize your pinhole photographs onto a contact sheet like the one pictured here. You will need to scan your photos and then use Photoshop and Publisher programs to create the contact sheet. Follow the directions below to complete.

1) Scan your photos onto your USB from the scanner in the classroom.

2) Take your USB to your computer and save the scanned photos onto your H:/ drive.

3) Open Photoshop (64-bit)

4) File> Open> your scanned pinhole photo negatives

5) For each photo do the following:

Image> Adjustments> Invert 

This should invert the black and white

Image > Image Rotation> Flip Canvas Horizontally

This should flip the image so it is no longer backwards

6) File> Save As> ***Rename your file so you still have the negative

7) Open Office Publisher to create the contact sheet

8) Insert> Images 

Insert your negative and positive and put them side-by-side as shown above. You will need to resize them. 

9) Continue to insert all of your pinhole photographs, both the positive and the negatives in chronological order (the order you took them in). USE THEM ALL as I want to see how you progressed and problem-solved.

10) Insert a text box to title you contact sheet, be sure to include your name too.

11) File>Save As> "Your Name Pinhole Assignment" onto your H:/ drive

12) Print your contact sheet to the class printer and hand-in

Your task: Watch 3 out of the 5 following Ted talks and make notes on why these presenters consider photography important. What do they say the function of photography is? What are their personal reasons for photographing their subjects?

Create your own blog post and describe why you think photography is important. Describe whether you agree or disagree with some of the ideas presented in the videos and talk about your own ideas! Get bloggin'

THE BASICS OF PHOTOGRAPHY

Learning Goal

Get comfortable taking pictures with a camera and 

exploring different photo composition techniques.

The best camera is the one that you have with you.  This is a common quote among photographers, especially Chase Jarvis: check out his work here.  A better camera is not always available and there are important basic concepts that should be followed to get a great photograph.

Simple camera tips

• Hold the shutter button down halfway to focus your subject. Press the shutter all the way down to take a photograph. If using a smart phone, tap the screen to focus.

• Keep the camera as still as possible when taking a picture.  Use a tripod when available or lean on something or set your camera down on something. This will keep the image focused. 

• Don’t use flash.

• Try different camera angles, get low to the ground, hold the camera high up.

• Move in close to the subject you want to photograph. Don't zoom in!
• HAVE A SUBJECT, there should be one thing that stands out in each photograph this is your subject.

Your Task: Using your camera phone take 10 photographs around the school and property. You have 25 minutes. When you return, select the best photo and post it on your blog. Remember to use the tips above and incorporate the elements and principles of design.
